I recently installed version 2 of the GTA car kit on my 2016 BMW 428i Gran Coupe and thought that I would share my experience. The installation video is excellent; not too long, but covers all the important points in sufficient detail. I'd emphasize that it's critical to remove the glove box to do a good installation. Some other videos suggest that you can get away without this on 3- and 4-series BMWs, but I find hard to imagine how to place the electronics module into the space between the head unit and the glove box. I found a few minor differences between my car and the one in the video. 1. The head unit was secured with only two torx screws rather than four, perhaps because it seems to be not as high as the one in the vehicle in the video. 2. The connectors on the HVAC/radio control panel and the footwell light were very tight and I could not easily remove them. I left them in rather than risk breaking them. This made things a bit more awkward but was still manageable. 3. There are two cables that run from the bottom right of the head unit (when viewed from behind) up the right side and over the top of the quad lock connector. While I could maneuver the cables out of the way to get the quad lock out, holding them out of the way while plugging the new harness in was a challenge. The cables are held in position by a plastic clasp just to the left of the quad connector. This can be opened to give more slack in these two cables so that the new quad lock is more easily inserted. The system works as billed. There is no loss of audio quality when using Car Play. Best of all I can now get real time traffic information through Waze or Google Maps, a function that was lost from these models due to the obsolescence of their 3G mobile hardware.
